By default device reports in on Shake, Stop and every 60s while in motion.  This can be adjusted easily in the interface, but more frequent updates will drain the battery faster.
Purchase the unit, activate when you're ready to use.  Airtime is 29.99 a month with no contracts or activation fees.  If you have multiple devices the airtime drops to 19.99 per month.
The software runs on any mobile phone or desktop computer using your web browser.
