Description
An attractive set of bookends of a tiger on the prowl.Numerous athletic teams have the tiger as a mascot, including Clemson University, Auburn University, and the Detroit Tigers.
Cast iron with a chocolate-colored patina; a magnet sticks to the surface. Seam lengthwise down the middle from the casting form. Probably made in the United States between 1925 and 1939, though there are no maker's marks or dates on the bookends, and I have not seen this set before, in person or in any of the bookend reference books.
The surface of these bookends is quite nice. There is wear to the backs of the bases, probably from resting against books. One tiger has a shinier, lighter patina than the other. No rust, chips, cracks, breakage, or repairs on either bookend.
The felts on the bottoms are recent replacements. The bookends sit flat and flush back-to-back at the bases. Each bookend is approximately 4.5" tall, 6" long, and 2.5" deep at the base. Together the bookends weigh a hefty 8 pounds, 3.7 ounces, with one of them weighing about 3 ounces more than the other..
The photographs are part of the description. I have taken them under different lighting conditions. Please examine them carefully, using the magnifier.
SHIPPING: The bookends will be shipped bubble-wrapped in a USPS Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box. Buyer will pay .95 for shipping. Please note that eBay now collects state sales tax. I will accept returns only if I have described the bookends significantly incorrectly, but not otherwise, because of the shipping cost I would incur with a return. I do not ship to addresses outside the United States. Please see estimated delivery time above.
